Refine Your List

Using the document you started creating in Step Three as a guide, develop a list of goals that you might want to move toward.

You have kept it general in nature up to know, but it is finally time to start refining the goals so that they include defined targets or counts, numbers, quantities, percentages and the like. Keep seeking input and validation on your selections, but reduce the list by maybe combining some items that appear to bee the same efforts.tires_640

Think alignment

I have needed an alignment on my car from time to time.  The car was pulling strongly to one side which indicated that I must have smacked a curb a little too hard and jolted my car out of alignment.

Your main initiatives, in terms of budget and resources, should be directly linked to district/school goals and objectives. If you have obtained a copy of the district wide strategic plan, now is the time to review it again.

Administrators should drive major initiatives in conjunction with you. Start thinking about finding an administrative sponsor to adopt one or more of your goals. By getting a Principal or above involved, you gain an ally.  Understand that not all of the goals that your Org develops will be connected to Technology. There may be few that really can be used to directly create alignment, but not all of them are in plain sight.

The point is not quantity but quality. by connecting some key technology goals to organizational goals you stand a much better chance of making them stick. If you can align to several specific strategic goals then others will be able to help you achieve them.

If NONE of you targets are even close to assisting, supporting or achieving a district wide goal, then you need to rethink your efforts. If there is no alignment, then I fear you may not be as connected to the overall mission as you may think.
